Lebte 1877-1913 in Florenz im Kreise Böcklins und A. von Hildebrands, 1915-43 in München. Vom Italienerlebnis sind ihre Novellen und Erzählungen bestimmt, deren beste ihre Stoffe aus der italienischen Renaissance nehmen.Werke, Lyrik: Gedichte (1888); Neue Gedichte (1905); Singende Flamme (1948). In einer ihrer schönen Balladen hat sich die Tochter des großen schwäbischen Erzählers Hermann Kurz mit kritischem Blick selbst dargestellt als das ,,Fremde Fräulein", das über den engen geistigen Bezirk des Mutterlandes hinausstrebend erst im Erleben der Fremde zur Erkenntnis und Besitznahme der eigenen Persönlichkeitswelt gelangt. Nach dem frühen Tod des geliebten Vaters übersiedelte die junge Dichterin mit ihrer Mutter nach Florenz; aus dem ursprünglich nur für ein Jahr geplanten Aufenthalt wurden drei Jahrzehnte in der Stadt Dantes und Botticellis' schicksalhaft und bestimmend für ihre menschliche und künstlerische Entwicklung und geprägt von dem weltoffenen Künstlerkreis der deutschen Kolonie, dem Arnold Börklin, Hans von Marees und Adolf von Hildebrand angehörten. Der erste Weltkrieg setzte dem Florentiner Idyll ein jähes Ende; Isolde Kurz wählte Bayern zur neuen Heimat und gestaltete ihr Münchener Haus zum geistigen Zentrum für alle ihr Gleichgesinnten aus, die sich zu einem hohen, anspruchsvollen Menschentum nach klassischen Vorbildern bekannten. Hier entstanden ihre reifsten Dichtungen, Novellen und Romane, die in den sechs Bänden ihrer ,,Gesammelten Werke" schon 1925 geschlossen vorlagen und ein weites Echo fanden. In ihren letzten Schaffensjahren kam das schon früh erkennbare autobiographische Element ihrer Dichtung immer stärker zum Durchbruch: das ,,Fremde Fräulein", das sich schon in der Jugendnovelle ,,Die Vermählung der Toten" gespiegelt hatte, erkannte sich als Achtundsiebzigjährige noch einmal in der Titelgestalt des herrlichen Frauenromans ,,Vanadis", die, um ihre Liebe betrogen, würdig und groß zu sterben versteht würdig und groß wie ihre Dichterin, die am Ende eines erfüllten Lebens heimfand in die schwäbische Erde, und in der Hölderlinstadt Tübingen kurz nach ihrem einundneunzigsten Geburtstage die klaren, wissenden Augen für immer schloß.
